I saw my doctor this morning for a follow up. I always call her by the title “doctor”. This morning, she corrected me and said she is only a physician assistant and that I can call her “Ms”. I told her straight up, “Higher education means nothing to me. You’re treating me as a doctor. You’re here in this clinic working as a doctor. In my eyes, that’s what you are.”
She looked surprised. I’m not sure if she was disappointed that I said higher education means nothing to me, or if she was impressed that I still consider her to be “more” than what she considers herself.
